The Feast of Our Lady of Health is celebrated in Venice on November 21 and is one of the most heartfelt religious observances in the city.
It commemorates the end of the terrible plague of 1630 and began as a vow of thanks to the Virgin Mary.
For the occasion, a temporary votive bridge is built across the Grand Canal so people can reach the basilica on foot.
