RIALTO MARKET
Rialto Market is one of the most historic and important places in Venice, and for centuries it was the true commercial center of the city. It is located near the Rialto Bridge, right in a very central area.
As early as the Middle Ages, all kinds of trade took place here: goods arrived from all over the world, and almost everything was bought and sold, making it the economic heart of the Venetian Republic. It was always full of merchants, customers, and activity.
Over time, the market became more organized, with specific areas dedicated to different products. Even today, it is especially famous for fresh fish, as well as fruit and vegetables, and it is one of the best places to experience the “real” daily life of Venetians, not just tourism.
In the past, it was not only about trade: the entire Rialto area was also the financial center of the city, with bankers, money changers, and offices related to commerce.
Today, it is still active—although smaller than it once was—and continues to be both an important place for locals and a popular destination for visitors.
