Description

VENICE SANTA LUCIA STATION

Venezia Santa Lucia railway station is the main train station for arriving in Venice—as soon as you step out, you are practically right on the Grand Canal.

It is located in the Cannaregio district and is connected to the mainland (such as Mestre) by a railway bridge, making it the direct link between Venice and the rest of Italy.

It hasn’t always existed in its current form: in the 19th century, a church and a convent dedicated to Saint Lucy were demolished to make way for the station, which is where its name comes from.

The building you see today is actually quite “modern”: the project was developed between the 1920s and the post-war period, and it was completed around the 1950s.

Inside, it is a large station with many platforms and services (shops, cafés, etc.). Outside, you immediately find waterbuses (vaporetti) and water taxis, making it an extremely convenient starting point for getting around the city.
